The above theatre in Ephesus was started under Lysimachus in the third century B.C. It could hold tens of thousands of spectators and was the largest outdoor theatre in the ancient world. The theatre exhibited the fights of wild beasts and of men with beasts. In the distance you can see a road that once led to a sea and a harbor for ships.
The Apostle Paul lived in and evangelized the city for more than two years during his second missionary journey. It is in Ephesus that Paul meets Aquila and Priscilla. This couple would become good friends of Paul's and aid his evangelism efforts in the area.
