Q. WHY is abortion
wrong? What does the Bible say about it?
(Submitted by: E. T.)
A. What the Bible
says about abortions is of deeper spiritual consequences than society realizes. We know the Ten Commandments state we
should not kill or commit murder (Deuteronomy 5:17).
Usually this is the argument between the pro-choice and pro-life people.
However, Biblically abortion is even a greater sin than what is politically argued.
In Genesis 38:6-10 Judah, one of the twelve sons of Jacob, had a firstborn whose
name was Er, but he was wicked and God killed him. It was his brother's responsibility to raise a child in his brother
Er's name. Onan, his brother, refused to have a child after his brother's name, and instead, Onan, was also killed.
"And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name [was] Tamar.
And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him. And Judah said unto Onan, Go
in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother. And Onan knew that the seed should not
be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled [it] on the ground, lest that he
should give seed to his brother. And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also."
(Genesis 38:6-10)
God was angry because Onan refused to have a child for his brother so the
inheritance could continue through his brother Er. What is the point?
Since each pregnancy is a miracle from God so that a new born could become a son
of God and inherit eternal life, the act of abortion stops that miracle.
