At least three men are named Asaph in the Bible. The most noteworthy of these was appointed by King David to oversee the song services at God's tabernacle. Under King Solomon Asaph was appointed to be one of the few men to oversee songs at Jerusalem's temple.

Asaph is credited with writing at least twelve of the Psalms.
