Asa was the third ruler over the Kingdom of Judah. He reigned from 910 to 869 B.C. His forty-one years of rule was one of the longest of any king over Israel or Judah.

At least three men are named Asaph in the Bible. The most noteworthy of these was appointed by King David to oversee the song services at God's tabernacle. He was appointed, under King Solomon, to be one of the few men to oversee songs at Jerusalem's temple.

Asaph is credited with writing at least twelve of the Psalms.
