Feller (warrior), hewer, the cutter down
Strong's #H1439, #G1066
Gideon is spelled Gedeon in the KJV New Testament (Hebrews 11:32). He is also referred to as Jerubbaal. The name was given him by his father when Gideon destroyed an altar to the pagan God Baal (Judges 6:32).
Gideon is used by God to free his people from Midianite oppression. He becomes one of Israel's Judges (1145 to 1105 B.C.) after he and his army of 300 fighters crush the Midianites in battle.
