Japhia was the king of Lachish who, along with other rulers, sought to stop Israel's conquering of Canaan. Their attempt, however, failed miserably, and Japhia lost his life at the hands of Joshua. Another person named Japhia was one of King David's sons through a concubine.

Japhia is also the name of a city given to the tribe of Zebulun as an inheritance in the Promised Land.
