Bible Meaning: Mountain
Strong's Concordance #H2023
Mount Hor is where Aaron, Israel's first High Priest and Moses' older brother, died at the age of 123 (Numbers 33:37 - 39). He was not allowed to enter the Promised Land due to his refusal to carry out God's will at the waters of Meribah (20:22 - 24). Moses, who also did not follow God's instructions at Meribah, will die less than a year later on Mount Nebo (Deuteronomy 32:48 - 50, 34:1 - 6).
The location of Mount Hor is not Biblically clear. What is known is that it is likely a short distance from Kadeshbarnea (Kadesh) and that it was near, but not inside, Edom's borders.
A mountain named Hor is also recorded as existing as Israel's northern boundary (Numbers 34:7 - 8). This mount might be synonymous to Mt. Hermon.
Numbers 20:21 - 23, 25
Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him. And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto mount Hor.
Numbers 33:5, 37, 39
And the children of Israel removed from Rameses, and pitched in Succoth . . .
And they removed from Kadesh, and pitched in mount Hor, in the edge of the land of Edom . . .
And Aaron was an hundred and twenty and three years old when he died in mount Hor.
Numbers 34:7 - 8
And this shall be your north border: from the great sea ye shall point out for you mount Hor: From mount Hor ye shall point out your border unto the entrance of Hamath: and the goings forth of the border shall be to Zedad . . .
Deuteronomy 32:48 - 50
And the Lord spake unto Moses that selfsame day, saying, Get thee up into this mountain Abarim, unto mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho . . .
And die in the mount whither thou goest up (referring to Moses), and be gathered unto thy people: as Aaron thy brother died in mount Hor, and was gathered unto his people . . .
