What errors exist in the King James Bible translation (KJV)? Which verses are not translated correctly? Where do punctuation problems exist?

What we call the Old Testament, in its original language, has incredibly few Bible errors. This is primary because the Levitical priests faithfully and painstakingly copied the text for generations. Unfortunately, many errors can be found in the King James Bible due to its translators using Latin readings that sometimes inaccurately conveyed what was in the original Hebrew text.

Biases and Prejudices

As if that were not enough, still more errors crept in to the KJV Bible because the translators, picked by King James to produce an English version of God's word, "read into" certain texts their own biases, prejudices and long held church doctrines. This inaccurate method of Bible interpretation is known as Eisegesis.

The bulk of New Testament manuscripts were copied century after century from earlier ones as they wore out. This text, known as the "Received Text," was used in the King James Bible. Nearly 4,000 manuscripts of this official text agree with each other and contain relatively few errors. Located primarily at Mount Athos in Greece, copies of the text give us a very reliable record of the New Testament.

This brief article lists a few of the most important corrections to errors and inaccuracies in the King James Version Bible. In spite of its problems, other more modern translations like the Good News, English Standard Version, NIV, and so on have far more problems and distortions in the text than the venerable KJV!

Corrections to Old Testament Bible Errors

Genesis 1:2 - And the earth BECAME without form and void . . .

Genesis 10:9 - He was a mighty hunter AGAINST the Lord.

Leviticus 16:8, 10, 26 - The word from which "Scapegoat" is translated is better rendered "Azazel."

2Kings 2:23 - And while he was going up on the highway, a GANG OF YOUTHS . . .

Ezekiel 20:25 - Wherefore I also gave them over to their OWN statutes that were not good, and their own ordinances . . .

Malachi 4:6 - And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the sons, and the heart of the sons to their fathers, LEST I COME AND STRIKE THE EARTH WITH UTTER DESTRUCTION.

Corrections to New Testament Bible Errors

Matthew 27:49 - But the rest said, "Let Him alone! Let us see if Elijah comes to save Him." THEN ANOTHER TOOK A SPEAR AND THRUST IT INTO HIS SIDE, AND OUT CAME WATER AND BLOOD.

The above translation is justified because the Orthodox Church states the text, in capital letters above, was part of the Greek text of the New Testament until it was mistakenly deleted in the early part of the sixth century A.D. Although this error of missing text shows up in the KJV translation, other translations such as the Holy Bible Faithful Version and possibly others do include it.

Luke 2:14 - Glory to God in the highest, AND PEACE ON EARTH AMONG MEN OF GOODWILL.

Luke 9:50 - But Jesus said to him, "Do not forbid him, BECAUSE EVERYONE WHO IS NOT AGAINST US IS FOR US."

Luke 10:22 - THEN HE TURNED TO THE DISCIPLES and said, "All things were delivered to Me by My Father . . ."

Acts 12:4 - And after arresting him, he put him in prison, delivering him to four sets of four soldiers to guard him with the intent of bringing him out to the people after the PASSOVER season.

Acts 20:28 - Take heed therefore to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, TO FEED THE CHURCH OF GOD

1Corinthians 1:18 - For to those who are perishing, the preaching of the cross is foolishness; but to us who ARE BEING saved, it is the power of God.

2Corinthians 6:2 - For He says, "In an acceptable time I have heard you, and in A day of salvation I have helped you."

2Thessalonians 2:10 - And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in those who ARE PERISHING . . .

1Timothy 6:10 - For the love of money is a root of all EVILS.

Hebrews 4:8 - FOR IF JOSHUA HAD GIVEN THEM REST, He would not have spoken long afterwards of another day.

Revelation 2:21 - And I gave her time TO REPENT OF HER FORNICATION, but she did not repent.

Revelation 18:17 - For in one hour such great wealth has been destroyed. And every shipmaster, AND ALL TRAVELING IN SHIPS, AND SAILORS, AND AS MANY AS TRADE BY SEA, will stand far off.

Revelation 20:10 - And the Devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet HAD BEEN CAST.

Corrections to Punctuation Errors in the Bible

Mark 16:9 - Now after Jesus had risen, early the first day of the weeks . . .

Luke 23:43 - And Jesus said to him, "Truly, I tell you today, you shall be with Me in paradise."

Unnecessary Additions

John 18:5 - The King James Bible, in an attempt to add clarity to what was said, made a grievous error when it added the word "he" to a phrase Jesus made when he was arrested. In John 18:5 it says that when a group of religious leaders stated they were looking for Jesus of Nazareth that Christ responded with the phrase, "I am he."

The addition of "he," however, in this KJV Bible obscures a profound revelation by our Savior. Our Lord's response is more accurately translated as "I AM." This short answer was his testimony that he was indeed God in the flesh and the God of the Old Testament! Such a declaration was so powerful that it knocked armed soldiers to the ground!

1John 5:7 - The King James Bible states, "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." Most modern translations agree that this was an uninspired and erroneous addition to the Latin Vulgate used to support the unscriptural doctrine of the Trinity. This addition was not present in the original Greek manuscripts of the New Testament!

This Bible verse should read "And it is the Spirit that bears witness because the Spirit is the truth" (HBFV). Verse 8 of the chapter should read, "For there are three that bear witness on the earth: the Spirit, and the water, and the blood; and these three witness unto the one truth."
