India, considered on our map to be a part of greater Asia, has a total land and water area of 3,287,263 square kilometers, which is ranked 7th in the world. The country is about one-third the size of America. Its estimated 2017 population of 1.2 billion makes it the earth's second most populous nation. It also emits the fourth largest amount of Carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

Iran, another large country in Asia, has a total land and water area of 1,648,195 square kilometers. The country is somewhat smaller than the state of Alaska. In 2017, it possessed the fourth largest proven crude oil reserves and the second largest proven reserves of natural gas.

Japan has a total land and water area of 377,915 square kilometers. The country is slightly smaller than the state of California. It is the fourth largest importer of crude oil and the second largest importer of natural gas in the world.

Kazakhstan, one of the larger countries in Asia, has a total land and water area of 2,724,900 square kilometers, which is ranked 10th in the world. The country is roughly four times the size of the state of Texas. Its estimated 2017 population of 18.5 million makes it 62nd most populous country in the world. The country also is ranked 13th in the world in regard to its crude oil production.

North Korea, in the above map of Asia, has a total land and water area of 120,538 square kilometers. The country is a bit smaller than the state of Mississippi and has a population of around 24 million. The nation has no known crude oil reserves. It shares a border with other countries in Asia such as China, South Korea and Russia. Its Chinese border stretches for 1,352 km (840 miles) but it only shares an 18 km (11 miles) border with Russia and a 237 km (147 miles) border with South Korea.

Russia has a total land and water area of 17,098,242 square kilometers and is the largest nation on earth. The country is just under twice the physical size of the United States. Its estimated 2018 population of 142.1 million ranks it 9th in the world. Russia has the largest Natural Gas reserves and, as of 2017, is the world's biggest producer of crude oil.

South Korea, another country in Asia, has a total land and water area of 99,720 square kilometers. The country is just slightly bigger than the state of Indiana. Its estimated 2017 population is around 51 million which ranks it 27th in the world. The two biggest religions represented in the country are Christianity and Buddhism.

Finally, Taiwan, in our map of Asia, has a total land and water area of 35,980 square kilometers. Its estimated 2018 population is around 23.5 million, which ranks it 55th in the world. The country, based on 2015 estimates, imports 846,400 barrels of oil a day, making it the world's 13th largest importer of the energy source (CIA World Factbook).
