Sharon (Plain of)
Bible Meaning: A plain
Strong's Concordance #H8289

The Bible mentions a city named Sharon located east of the Jordan River in an area given to the tribe of Gad (1Chronicles 5:16).

The Plain of Sharon was an area of ancient Israel that was bounded by Mount Carmel and its mountain range in the north and Joppa in the south. Its western border was the Mediterranean Sea.

The Plain of Sharon is approximately 54.5 miles (87.7 kilometers) long from Mount Carmel to Joppa. The larger southern section of the plain is roughly 10 miles (16.1 kilometers) wide, with it narrowing to about 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) wide in the north.

Isaiah prophesied that, in the near future, the plain's excellent pastureland will represent the peace God grants his people (Isaiah 65:10).

The bride of King Solomon, spoken about in Song of Solomon 2:1, compared herself to the rose of Sharon. The Hebrew word translated as "rose" in this verse (Strong's #H2261) references a meadow saffron or crocus with an unknown color.
