Meaning of Numbers: The Number 320

The possible meaning of the number 320 is derived from the occurrence of certain words and from historical events that affected Christians.

The English word "silver" appears 320 times, in 282 verses, in the King James text. Silver is mentioned the most in Exodus and Numbers (32 times each) followed by 2Kings and 2Chronicles (21 times each). One of the valuable spoils the Israelites took from the Egyptians, just before they left the country for the Promised Land, was silver.

But every woman shall borrow of her neighbor, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians (Exodus 3:22, KJV).

A jubilee year occurs after seven sets of seven years are completed. This special 50th year is a time when land returns to their original owners and slaves are set free (Leviticus 25:10, 39 - 40). A Jubilee year began on the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur), or September 28, in 320 A.D. It lasted until the next Day of Atonement, September 18, in 321.

The Bible, in Ezra 2, offers precise details regarding which and how many descendants of Judah's Babylonian captives returned home. One family had 320 people return to Judah and Jerusalem.

The children of Harim, three hundred and twenty (Ezra 2:32, KJV).

Chapter 3 of the minor prophet Zephaniah, the last chapter of this prophetic book, has 20 verses (320). This last verse reveals God's promise to gather the remnant of Israel, during Christ's reign on earth, and place them in the Promised Land.

At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the Lord (Zephaniah 3:20, KJV).

The English word "mother" appears 320 times in 292 King James Bible verses. It is recorded the most in the gospel of Matthew (29 times) followed by Genesis (28) and then 2Kings and Luke (22 each). Its first use reveals one of the things males are destined to do once they become old enough to leave home.

And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh (Genesis 2:23 - 24, KJV).

The English word "sight" appears 333 times in 320 King James verses. It is written the most in 2Kings (37 times) followed by Ezekiel (26). It is first used in Scripture to describe the trees created for the Garden of Eden that produced food. The verse also lists two other trees that would soon become critical for determining the destiny of Adam and Eve.

And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:9, KJV).

St. Peter's Basilica and Number 320

Around 320 A.D. construction began on the original (also called the old) St. Peter's Basilica during the reign of Emperor Constantine I. The basilica was built where Roman Emperor Caligula had started a circus for the express purpose of indulging in his passion for chariot racing. In 65 A.D., at the time of Emperor Nero, the circus was the site of the first state-sponsored murdering of Christians for their beliefs.

The history of the old basilica, in an area known today as Vatican City in Rome, lasted from about 320 A.D. to the sixteenth century. In 1506 A.D. worked started on a new St. Peter's Basilica in the same location as the old. The work was completed in 1626.
