Meaning of Numbers: The Number 711

The English phrases "seven hundred and eleven" or "seven hundred eleven," used for the number 711, are not found in the King James Bible.

The possible meaning of the number 711 is derived primarily from Biblical history.

The ministry of the minor prophet Micah ran from 740 to 711 B.C. Micah gave prophecies concerning Samaria (Israel), Jerusalem and the entire world. He condemned those who worked day and night to devise evil (Micah 2:1) and rebuked Israel's leaders for being the vilest of sinners (3:1 - 7).

The minor prophet Nahum served and wrote his book in 711 B.C. Nahum wrote about the judgment of Nineveh and the subsequent comfort that would come to Israel. His prophecies were primarily against Nineveh (Assyrians). His book is one of the smallest in Scripture, containing only 3 chapters and 1,285 words.

Appearances of Number Seven Hundred Eleven

Entry 711 in the Hebrew definitions portion of Strong's is the Chaldean word argvan. The word, found only three times in the book of Daniel, is used to refer to the color scarlet. The color, like purple, was expensive and hard to obtain in ancient times and as such came to symbolize wealth and power.

Daniel was clothed in scarlet by the last ruler of the Neo-Babylonian Empire after he correctly interpreted the "handwriting on the wall" of Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin (Daniel 5:25 - 28).

The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet (argvan), and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.

Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet (argvan), and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom (Daniel 5:7, 29, KJV).

Entry 711 in the Greek definitions portion of Strong's is the word Aristoboulos. The word, which means "the best councilor," is the name of one of the many New Testament people connected with the Apostle Paul and his ministry. Paul, in the last chapter of the book of Romans, sends his greetings to the church meeting in Aristobulus' home within the city of Rome.

Salute Apelles approved in Christ. Salute them which are of Aristobulus' household (Romans 16:10, KJV).

Genesis 7:11 (711) reveals how old Noah was when the great flood was brought upon the earth in order to destroy all life. It also reveals on what day the flood started. This information is important, as along with verse 24 and 8:3 - 4, it can be calculated that a calendar year existed consisting of only 360 days before the flood!

In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on this day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of the heavens were opened . . .

Israel and Judah

Conquered and take out of the land by the Assyrian Empire, the Kingdom of Israel (northern 10 tribes) no longer exists as a nation in 711 B.C. Just 12 years earlier, in 723 B.C., Samaria fell to Assyrian King Shalmaneser V with the people taken captive!

King Hezekiah was near the beginning of his reign over the Kingdom of Judah in 711 B.C. Hezekiah, who ruled from 715 to 686, is considered one of the best and most righteous monarchs to ever rule over God's people.

Hezekiah began to reign when he was five and twenty years old, and he reigned nine and twenty years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Abijah, the daughter of Zechariah. And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that David his father had done (2Chronicles 29:1 - 2, KJV).

Hezekiah, when Jerusalem is attacked in 701 by the Assyrian Empire, humbles himself and prays to God for help. The Lord's response is to have Hezekiah witness the greatest military defeat in human history! The angel of the Lord, in a single night, kills 185,000 Assyrian troops so quickly that not a single man awakes or a single arrow is fired in defense (2Kings 18 - 19, Isaiah 37)!

The Sabbatical Year and Number 711

God commanded ancient Israel to observe what is known as a Sabbatical year (Leviticus 25:1 - 7, 19 - 23). The beginning of this special period was (likely) proclaimed on the Day of Trumpets (Tishri 1, aka Rosh Hashanah) at the start of every seventh year.

A Biblical Sabbatical year, the seventh in a series of seven, ran from Thursday, September 17 in 711 A.D. to Tuesday September 6 in 712. The start of God's Jubilee (50th) year was declared a few days later in 712 on the Day of Atonement (Tuesday, September 15).

Coincidently, a Sabbatical year also began on September 8 in 711 B.C. which lasted to September 28 in 710. A few days later, on Atonement (Yom Kippur), which fell on October 7 in 710 B.C., a Jubilee year started!

The are no places in the Bible where the words "seven" and "eleven" appear in the same verse.

711 is the product of 3 x 3 (3 squared) x 79. Both 3 and 79 are prime numbers.

The number 711 is equal to 3 x 3 (or 3 squared) x 79, both of which are primes.

711 years after God created Adam, based on our Old Testament timeline, brings us to the year 3258 B.C. The patriarchs alive during this year include Adam, Seth (581 years old), Enos (476), Cainan (386), Mahalaleel (316), Jared (251), Enoch (89) and Methuselah (24). Methuselah would ultimately live another amazing 945 years (see Genesis 5) to the age of 969!
